The origin of my search for my roots and the coming to China III

Como consecuencia de este contacto percibí que, este pueblo chino tan hermético y ensimismado, estaba ahora ávido de conocer y darse a conocer. Invité a exponer en Buenos Aires a pintores de China en 2003; y a destacados pintores de Shanghai, apoyada por la Universidad Kennedy de Buenos Aires en 2005. Durante el año 2008 llevé a cabo dos exposiciones para artistas plásticos de la ciudad de Yongkang con el apoyo de la Galería de Arte Oriental Buddhaba y la Universidad Kennedy.

Todo este dialogo se logro gracias a los contactos generados y el apoyo de mi hermano en su afán de dar acercamiento a nuestros pueblos. Dialogo al que se me ocurrió llamar “globalización cultural anulada por causa de vencedores y vencidos”, ironía que no nos dejó ver la enorme presencia China en la América andina desde hace muchísimos siglos. Sabiendo, como evidencia, que cuando Magallanes tocó Filipinas, se encontró con embarcaciones por lo menos cinco veces mas grandes que la que el conducía.

Volviendo al arte. Mi relación con distintas ciudades de china creció. Recibo Delegaciones en mi casa y soy invitada a exponer en 2006 a las ciudades de Taizhou, donde soy nombrada por la Universidad “Artista Investigadora”, luego Yongkang, Ningbo y Shanghai. A mi vuelta soy contratada para poner en marcha el Área Cultural de la Galería de Arte Oriental, Buddhaba. En 2008 recibo la invitación de la Ciudad de Yongkang, de Yiwu, para participar en la Feria Internacional de Arte y de Shanghai en el Distrito de Xuhui. Solicito poder llevar conmigo obra de pintores Argentinos, para darnos a conocer un poco mas. Mi propuesta es bienvenida, y parto durante el mes de Abril/mayo.

As a result of this contact I noticed that the Chinese people so secretive and brooding, was now eager to know and be known. So I invited, to exhibit in Buenos Aires, many chinese painters in 2003, and two painters from Shanghai, supported by Kennedy University of Buenos Aires in 2005. During 2008 I conducted two exhibitions, for artists from the city of Yongkang, with the support of the Buddha Oriental Art Gallery and the University Kennedy.

All this dialogue that was generated through contact and the support of my brother, in his eagerness to move closer to our peoples. Dialogue that I call "cultural globalization canceled the perspective of victors and vanquished" that, ironically, did not let us see the huge Chinese presence in Andean America for many centuries. Knowing as evidence that when Magellan get to the Philippines, found boats at least five times larger than the ones he sailed.

Turning back to Art. My relationship with various Chinese cities grew up. I received many Delegations at my home. And I was invited to exhibit, in 2006, at the cities of Taizhou, where I am appointed by the University "Investigating Artist", then by Yongkang, Ningbo and Shanghai. On my return to Buenos Aires I am hired to launch the Cultural Area of the Eastern Art Gallery, BuddhaBA. In 2008 I receive the invitation of Yongkang City, Yiwu, to participate in the International Art Fair and Shanghai in Xuhui District. I propose to take the Argentine painters work to China and let us been known a little more. My proposal is welcome, and go back to China during the month of April / May.

Mi hermano, que residía en China me dijo que, si quería ver algo de símbolos antiguos americanos, encontraría mucho allí. Comencé planeando llevar una exposición de artistas Argentinos a China, pidiendo a mi hermano que nos consiga una Sala de Exposición, cosa que ayudaría y enriquecería mi viaje. Nos pusimos en campaña y, una vez todo organizado, el azar hizo que Cancillería quisiera ser la organizadora de este evento. Lo nuestro quedó postergado y presenté una carpeta con un proyecto a Cancilleria, para ver si era aceptada como artista invitada por ellos y viajar a China.

Así fue como, en 2001, hice mi primer viaje a China.

Llevaba dos proyectos: ver cuanto contacto habíamos tenido a través de los símbolos de su cultura y ver la cuna de la manufactura del papel.

Visitar el Museo Histórico de Shanghai fue un gran impacto, allí, en sus salas de metales y sobre todo en la de tejidos, encontré casi un calco de indumentarias y diseños que podrían verse en muchos países de Latinoamérica. El contacto había sucedido! No era mi imaginación. Pude visitar también un Molino de Papel de ochocientos años de antigüedad (papel hecho con bamboo) situado a cien kilómetros de la Ciudad de Hang Zhou.

Tuve ocasión de relacionarme con Artistas Plásticos chinos, estudiar durante mis dos meses de estadía un atisbo de pintura y caligrafía china con el que seguiría siendo mi profesor durante mis dos viajes posteriores: Profesor Chen Li Fan, en Shanghai.

My brother, who lived in China, told me that if I wanted to find some old American symbols I should go to China. I began planning an exhibition of Argentine artists in China, which will help and enrich my journey. I asked my brother to get us a showroom for the exibition. When we set all ready for the exibition, the Foreign Ministry decide that it would be the organizer of this event and ours was postponed. So I presented a project folder in the Foreign Ministry to be accepted as a guest artist for them and, finally, travel to China.

Thus in 2001, I made my first trip to China.
He got two projects: first, to see how much contact we had through the symbols of their culture and, second, to contemplete the cradle of papermaking.

Visiting the Shanghai History Museum was a great shock, in their rooms of metals and tissues, I found almost a carbon copy of costumes and designs that could be seen in any Latin American country. The contact exist! It was not my imagination. I could also visit a Paper Mill hundred years old (paper made from bamboo) located a hundred kilometers from the city of Hang Zhou.

I could interact with Chinese Fine Artists and study a glimpse of Chinese calligraphy and painting during my two month visit with Professor Chen Li Fan, in Shanghai. He continues teaching me in my later trips to China.
